During September tourists from anywhere may enter Canada as long as they prove that they have been fully vaccinated with the vaccines accepted by the authorities.
The border would be open as of September 7th and it would no longer be necessary to carry out a test upon arrival or 8 days after having arrived in the country.
To be considered fully vaccinated, you must have received the last of your injections 14 days prior to entering the country. It does not matter in which country they obtained their vaccines as long as they are the vaccines accepted by Canada such as: Pfizer, Astra Zeneca, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) and Moderna.
It is important to mention that the certificates of having been fully vaccinated have to be presented in English or French, otherwise the border officials will need travelers to present an official certified translation.
Before arriving in Canada, travelers will have to upload their required documents to the ArriveCAN application portal. All travelers must also have an emergency plan to carry out 14 days of quarantine if necessary.
Unvaccinated minors
In the case of children under 12 who are not eligible for a vaccine as of August 9th, they would no longer have to complete a 14-day quarantine. However, they would have to follow the measures dictated by the public health of Canada during the corresponding period of time. For them, the entry requirements and tests will still apply upon arrival and on the eighth day. The authorities mention that as of September once the border is opened for all tourists from other countries, the new measures mentioned above will also apply to these minors.
The indications for these minors remain to avoid group activities such as face-to-face classes at school in the two weeks after their arrival.
Each province may have its own rules for travelers who have recently entered the country. There will be more details from the authorities in the following days.
Testing requirements
For Canadian citizens and permanent residents who travel to the US (For less than 72 hours) from next August 9th, they will be able to do their proof of arrival prior to entering Canada. Which means that it will not be necessary to take a second test in the US to be able to return.
Those who are recovered after suffering from COVID-19 but who continue to test positive will be able to present their test carried out between 14 and 180 days before their arrival. (Previously it was only 90 days).
Travelers who are fully vaccinated will not need a post-arrival test unless they are randomly selected for a test on arrival.
Proof of having been vaccinated
Before addressing all the information required by ArriveCAN, it must be uploaded prior to boarding, this from August 9th. Travelers who cannot show their information uploaded to ArriveCAN will not be authorized to travel. The airlines will allow the information to be displayed on the application or in print.
In addition to the information uploaded to the application, they must also bring with them the certificate of having been vaccinated to show it if necessary.
Non-essential travelers authorized to come on August 9 only include fully vaccinated U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Temporary US residents are not considered on this occasion, nor are US residents from a third country.
Entitled travelers, such as Canadians and other travelers exempt from border restrictions, will need to submit information on their vaccination status through ArriveCAN; however, they will not be denied boarding if this requirement is not met.
Simplified quarantine
Those who have not been able to be fully vaccinated for a specific health condition could also be considered for a modified quarantine, the government will give more details soon.
Those arriving in Canada by ship will be eligible for easier quarantine and testing if they meet the requirement to be fully vaccinated. They must also meet the pre-entry testing requirements through ArriveCAN, however they may do so when entering Canada, since there is no internet connection in some maritime points.
Also for these travelers it is important to mention that a prepared quarantine plan is needed in case the border authorities consider that the necessary requirements for their entry into Canada are not met.
International flights in more airports
Also for this next August 9, five more airports could once again accept international flights.
Airports in Halifax, Quebec City, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Edmonton could open international arrivals.
During the pandemic, only Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto airports accepted some international flights.
